The oral exam is on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, starting at 8:00 in U52.

The examination starts at 8:00 with this examination sequence. It is not possible to calculate the exact examination time from the placement in the sequence, since students earlier on the list may not show up. Thus, students are expected to show up plenty early. In principle, all students who are taking the exam on a particular date are supposed to show up when the examination starts, i.e., at the time the first student is scheduled. This is partly because of the way external examiners are paid, which is by the number of students who show up for examination. For this particular exam, we do not expect many no-shows, but communicating with your fellow students in case someone does not show up is always a good idea.

Normal procedure for the exam

First, the students in a group together give a presentation. You may use a computer projector for this part. You bring your own laptop, so you are not restricted to pdf, but you are responsible yourself for being able to connect to the computer projector. The room has been announced, so you can verify this ahead of time. The safest option is to use pdf and also bring the presentation on a USB key in case of problems.

For the content, the presentation can be of a freely chosen topics from the project. However, it is important to choose at least some in-depth material that demonstrates knowledge and experience beyond the theoretical part of a compiler course.

The presentation is allowed to take a maximum of 10, 15, and 20 minutes for groups of size 1, 2, and 3, respectively, and the examinator may stop the presentation if it goes beyond the time limit. Examinator and censor will generally try to avoid asking questions during this part of the exam, unless they judge that asking a question will benefit the process. If questions are asked, the time limit will be adjusted to reflect this.

After this, examinator and censor will examinate each group member individually, asking questions related to the presentation, the report and code, and the topic in general. The starting point for the discussion of your code will be a transparency with code selected from the compiler you turned in.

The examination time will usually be up to 15 minutes for the individual part, leading to an average total examination time of around 25 minutes per student.
