Welcome to DM510 - Operating Systems (2021) at IMADA!

The course provides knowledge of the structure of computer systems, the interplay of hardware and software, the role of operating systems in this task, and the resource abstractions provided by an operating system.

Students will gain knowledge about actual operating systems, scheduling algorithms, security and protection mechanisms, file systems and process communication. Students will work on several programming assignments (system call, kernel module for a device drive, file system). The official course description can be found here.

07. Apr. 2021:	This is to encourage you (again) to use the IMADA Discord Server, and of course specifically the Text Channel “Operating Systems”. You can get there via the link https://discord.gg/H5VZ4kCa7b. All TAs are checking the text channel frequently, and you are most welcome to discuss any problems/questions you have specifically wrt. the mandatory assignments. Do not hesitate to ask for help or to discuss problems you observe - either with the TAs, or also among all of you. (We observe a significant lower activity this year, and usually we experience very valuable discussions in the OS text channel, often questions were answered even before the TAs looked at them).

19. Feb. 2021:	For running UML at IMADA you need to login to a Computer Lab machine (you should not work on a login/proxy node). See the status of all Computer Lab machines here: https://imada.sdu.dk/~daniel/computerLab.html. See https://imada.sdu.dk/~daniel/DM510-2020/vnc/ how you can conveniently configure ssh and how you can get access via VNC (not striclty necessary, ssh-only is absolutely fine. If you only want ssh, in essence only step 1 of the instructions is relevant.)

01. Feb. 2021:	The slide set for the first lecture is uploaded (see the lectures link in the menu of this page). The username and password to access the slide set is provided in itslearning.
29. Jan. 2021:	The lecture on Tuesday Feb., 2nd (14:15) will be on Zoom, the Zoom link is https://syddanskuni.zoom.us/j/68933662032. The password can be found in the first announcement in itslearning. I plan to use this Zoom link also for all future lectures. All lectures will be recorded and provided for offline usage.
